Still day one the family. Ryland had about 2 dozen visitors the first day. We made everyone wash hands first!!
Babies are born with Vernix, a waxy substance, covering them. It protects the skin while baby is growing in a watery environment. Ryland is getting his first bath to wash the Vernix out of his hair.
Colostrum is a thick yellowish substance that is very high in fat, calories and special anti-bodies that will help Ryland's undeveloped immune system fight off disease. There is not much of this and its thickness makes it a lot of work for baby to eat. So the first two nights, he woke up hungry every 30-45 minutes all night long which makes for a very very tired daddy.
